In fact, Mr. Ian said in interview as the band traveled in the back seat of a yellow cab, even in the old days, the band never played a venue quite like Saint Vitus. Formed in Queens in 1981, Anthrax practiced seven nights a week, occasionally performing in church basements around Flushing. “Once in a while maybe a bar would let us play,” Mr. Ian said. “But then we’d never get asked back because we’d be super loud.”
