New York City, Irving Plaza 03 November 2008
Set List (incomplete recording) ~ Crash And Burn > Ribbons > Train > Detonation Boulevard > Flood > Marian > Alice > Anaconda > This Corrosion (cuts) > We Are The Same, Suzanne (cuts) > Dominion (cuts)

Geek Specs
A/V ~ Sony DSC-T100 > 640×480 MPEG on Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo > Aiseesoft Video Converter > Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 640×480 MOV 44kHz > Final Cut Pro X > Compressor > H.264, 24fps, 5000kbps, AAC, 44kHz, 320kbps

Had a really good spot to shoot from until a little scuffle broke out in the balcony which attracted too much security attention. Long story short, I got shut down right after Anaconda. All attempts to find an alternative vantage point failed.

The Sisters Of Mercy – Bremen 1992 [uncut#107]

Bremen, Go Bang Festival at Klöckner Gelände 14 June 1992
Set List ~ More > First and Last and Always > Ribbons > Alice > Dominion/Mother Russia > Body Electric > Amphetamine Logic > Gimme Shelter > Flood II > This Corrosion > Comfortably Numb / Some Kind of Stranger > Fix > Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around > Vision Thing

Geek Specs
A/V ~ Borrowed 8mm camera, manufacturer and model unknown > Panasonic NV-FS90 SVHS > Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 640×480 MOV 44kHz > Final Cut Pro X > Compressor > H.264, 24fps, 5000kbps, AAC, 44kHz, 320kbps

Got busted at the gate, trying to smuggle in a friend’s camera. Managed to get it past security anyway because there’s really nothing a few ‘Benjamins’ won’t fix. Stood on a not so sturdy cooler in broad daylight, filming the show. The recording is of course a mess. Suffering equally from obstruction because of girls sitting on someone’s shoulder and the constant fear of getting shut down by security. The stupid digital FX don’t help the situation either. Befittingly, the band wasn’t on top of their game any longer as well. By 1992 the Vision Thing era incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy was a mere shadow of their glorious former years.

If you like the Stones, don’t watch this. Me and a friend just went for shits and giggles,  poking fun while having a few beers. We quickly found ourselves sitting on top of a wobbly trailer parked at a construction site just outside the open air ground. Look up the german term “Bauwagen” to get the full picture. Without any serious intent to record video in the first place, this ended up being an incomplete, very distant and extremely non-dedicated shoot of the first half of the show.

Anthrax – Snowscrapers 2009 [uncut#102]

Setlist ~ What Doesn’t Die > Madhouse > Bring The Noise w/Chuck D

Geek Specs
A/V ~ Sony HVR-A1U with Sony ECMHST1 Stereo Shotgun Microphone > 1080i/60 DV on Sony DVM-60PR > Sony GV-HD700 > Firewire > Final Cut Pro X > Compressor > H.264, 1280×720, 24fps, 8000kbps, AAC, 44kHz, 320kbps

Weather conditions at this show can only be described as utterly hostile. It was like Antarctica had tried to annex New York City.  I’m not sure if these ‘perfect conditions’ factored into the accompanying snowboard contest running way late. But as a result of this organizational slackerism, Anthrax’s set got butchered. What was meant to be a full length performance, had to be trimmed down to 3 songs as the event’s 10pm curfew was a mere 20 minutes away. While my personal outrage was overshadowed by fear of frostbite, the crowd that had waited for up to 6 hours for the band to go on, was furious. When the organizers turned off the FOH juice during “Bring The Noise”, the stage was bombarded with shards of ice and snowballs. Soon afterwards, the band released a statement which you can read below.

“We want to apologize to our fans that came out to the Red Bull event last night in the hellish cold to see us play. It was an awesome event that we were honored to play but things just didn’t go off quite like planned. Originally, we were to go on just before 9 PM and play for 45-minutes. One of the snowboarding events ran very late which caused us to delay the start of our set. That and a curfew we were not informed about until 9:30 PM snowballed into an unfortunate situation that was beyond our control. As we were walking to the stage, we were instructed to cut our set to three songs, and no one was more surprised than us when they cut the PA before we could finish the third song. We are particularly mortified that this happened when our good friend, Chuck D, had just taken the stage for ‘Bring The Noise’. We extend our apologies to him. Nothing like this has ever happened to Anthrax before, and we regret that it happened last night. Thank you to those who came out to support and once again our sincere apologies.” ~Anthrax
