The Silence After – The last days of CBGB’s

without comments

Before CBGB’s doors finally closed for good on October 15th 2006 a number of farewell shows graced the legendary club for a very last time. Dinosaurs mankind had believed to be extinct found their way back home from Jurassic Punk, onto a stage they hadn’t set foot on in ages. Some of these performances were sensational, others outrageously pathetic and insulting. No matter what category one might file them under, they all had one thing in common. A sold out madhouse atmosphere with a distinct vibe of nostalgia and last supper feasting. Talk about a good time… The Silence After presents the highs and lows of these unforgettable moments. Featuring: Avail 10/09/2006, Bad Brains 10/11/2006, Underdog 10/11/2006, Gorilla Biscuits 09/03/2006, Project X 09/03/2006, Leeway 06/18/2006, Bold 09/03/2006, Angry Samoans 09/09/2006, Avengers 09/08/2006, The Dictators 10/14/2006, Blondie 10/14/2006 and Patti Smith 10/15/2006.

Kellerkinder

without comments

Kellerkinder basically is all the good shit from Brooklyn’s loft and warehouse shows  that you always wanted to see.  Shot in un:ART:ig’s very own ‘wild style’ the camera boogies, screams and goes buck wild to what lies beneath New York City’s musical underground. Where horror flicks are not for the faint of heart this one isn’t for those easily suffering from motion sickness. Kellerkinder’s images and its music are not prefabricated fast food entertainment snacks. The noise attacking your eyes and ears is meant to be rough, aggressive, challenging, and yes, in most cases shameless unconditional fun as well… Featuring Aa (BIG A little a), The Death Set, Mat & Kim, Japanther, Shellshag, Double Dagger, The Fugue, Vaz, Lightning Bolt, Morricone Youth, Dub Trio, Usa Is A Monster, Owl Xounds Exploding Galaxy, Little Women, Ocrilim and Hillmer Looker Pride Trio.

Dawn of the Deaf

without comments

  • 57 minutes of sonic warfare
  • Retro style 4:3 letter boxed aspect ratio
  • Camera work as uncompromising and challenging as the subject matter itself
  • Earbleeding mayhem captured full on guerilla style in New York City’s way below the radar spots
  • Watch the full online version of the film on Youtube

Dawn of the Deaf deals with the beauty of infernal sonic warfare and the pleasure one finds in getting assaulted with cacophonies of sound until one’s ears are reduced to a bloody pulp. Fortunately for those who consider said painfull assaults the epidome of joy, New York City offers a lot of dark and forbidden fruits in its deep down underground nightlife. One of the fascinating aspects of ‘noise’ events is the likeliness of young talent sharing the stage with unpretentious established artists who are still, and very well for that matter, connected to current avantgarde affairs. Every so often for example one will find the likes of Thurston Moore or Genesis P-Orridge playing or DJ’ing at those off the beaten path lofts. Mind you, not as the headlining act but an opener or collaborator. It is what I call the beauty of a scene that seems to be above tiresome rockstar cliches. Dawn of the Deaf captured what UN:ART:IG believes to be the most interesting of these moments in recent years. Featuring:  Ramleh @ Death By Audio ‘07, Prurient & Thurston Moore @ The Hook ‘06, Magic Mountain @ Rad Pad ‘06, Wolf Eyes @ Death By Audio ‘07, Realicide @ 248 McKibbin ‘07, Yellow Swans @ Silent Barn ‘07, John Wiese & C Spencer Yeh @ Silent Barn ‘07, Black Dice @ Market Hotel ‘08, Mike Pride’s Drummer’s Corpse @ Tonic ‘07, Thee Majesty @ Northsix ‘06.

Bringin’ it back

without comments

  • An Old School Hip Hop Jam
  • 47 minutes of legends and institutions
  • Non-filtered full on guerilla style camera work, no candy coated post production

Bringin’ It Back is a documentation of real hip hop. Deep down in Harlem’s Jackie Robinson Park, formerly known as The Dome, an evening scheduled to be a Biz Markie show turned into a ‘who is who’ of the first generation of hip hop. On August 8th 2007 Lovebug Starsky brought all those to the stage who laid out the foundation for what would later become the dominating musical subculture of western society. Well aware of the subculture’s current problems with profanity, misogynist bullshit and violence, people like Busy Bee were sure to point out to the crowd that women are not “bitches and hoes” but queens who deserve every respect possible. He went on to say that hip hop in general is about peace and unity and not about shooting each other. Therefore, he drew a clear line between old school hip hop and today’s rap scene. Nevertheless the night ended with an outreach to younger generations by having Doug E. Fresh son’s outfit Square Off kicking out a jam before “The World’s Geatest Entertainer” himself unexpectedly closed the night with one of his legendary human beat box joints. Performers include but are not limited to:  Biz Markie, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Kool Herc, Grandmaster Kaz, Crash Crew, Lovebug Starsky, Busy Bee, Square Off, Doug E. Fresh.
