I wouldn't draw conclusions like you did about the sign of them unraveling by yelling at the crowd to stop crowd surfing. They pretty much did that at all their shows in the US as they started to get more popular and it seemed to be from a genuine concern for people getting hurt now that more meatheads were attending the shows.

Thanks a lot for bringing back some memories with this great video footage, Torsten! It seems as if we had been at least for once at the same time in the same spot as I also saw ATDI back in 1999 in Hannover. And I also remember seeing one of the most energetic shows I've ever been to. Cedric trying to run up a wall is one of those rare moments from all of the hundreds of concerts I've been to that I will never forget.

Back then I had just returned from a trip to the US in February/March 1999. I still remember going to a show of Jimmy Eat World in Atlanta, paying 5 dollars at the door to find only a handful of people haging out at the club. Besides a local act there were also At The Drive-In opening up for JEW. Never having heard of them before I clearly remember my first irritation when I saw those guys entering the stage, especially Cedric and Omar in their skin-tight jeans pants and jackets and with that huge hair. It took me a while to realize what I was just witnessing - and with "Napoleon Solo" they finally got me.

Two years later I was also at one of their last shows at the SO36 in Berlin. And my memories from that night are again quite similar to yours - it felt quite wrong. There was a massive distance between band and audience (though the audience had also changed compared to the earlier shows) and in between the band as well. I remember not feeling very comfortable that night.

Thanks again for sharing your videos and impressions, I enjoyed it a lot!

Take care,
Jens
